Chart data for Isotope Explorer

There are two kinds of files that can be used to produce nuclear charts:
Chart data files (.dat files)
These files normally contain a lot of data that can be loaded into a chart. The default .dat file is toi.dat (see below). The file toi.dat can be used with an empty .chr file. Other .dat files are initialized by including the command Database(filename) in the build section of a .chr file

Chart files (.CHR files)
Stand-alone chart files, normally containing a small selection of properties

Data files with extension .dat

Download a file by shift-clicking the file name. The files should be placed in the same directory as the Isotope Explorer program.

Ground-state properties, toi.dat
These are data mainly from the Table of Isotopes (detailed description)

Möller-Nix theory, moller.dat
**** Reference, short description **** What is the unit of Sn in the Moller database? The numbers look very strange!!! ***** (detailed description)

Decay parents and daughters, decay.dat
This is a special data file that contains parents and daughters of all nuclides. This file is needed for showing decay chains (acivated by the decay button in the tool bar)

Chart files with extension .chr

The chart files can either be used as they are or they can be modified to fit your needs. To modify a file, download it to your hard disk, make the appropriate changes with any editor and save it. Launch Isotope Explorer, open the chart file and click the Build Chart button in the tool box. Searching through a large part of the ENSDF database may take a few minutes, but you should consider the alternative of doing the same by hand! Have a cup of strong coffee while you wait!

Note that some chart files require ENSDF data (ENSDF, PENSDF or SENSDF) on disk in order to work properly.

If you have set the extension .chr to launch Isotope Explorer as a helper application, you can launch it by clicking the file name. Alternatively, you can transfer a file by shift-clicking it, and open it in Isotope Explorer with File, Open Chart or clicking the Chart button.

Beta stability: $bstab.chr
Access to ENSDF data. Requires ENSDF data (ENSDF) on disk. The chart is color-coded according to the EC or beta- Q-value (detailed description)

Decay data: $decay.chr
Chart interface for decay data. Requires decay data (PENSDF) on disk. The chart is color-coded according to the natural abundance (detailed description)

Decay mode: $decmode.chr
Displays decay mode of the nuclides. Requires ENSDF data (ENSDF) on disk. The chart is color-coded according to decay mode (detailed description)

Find a decay gamma: $findgam.chr
Template for a script to find a decay gamma of a given energy. Requires decay data (PENSDF) on disk (detailed description)

Isomers: $isomers.chr
Chart interface for isomeric states. Requires ENSDF data (ENSDF) on disk. The chart is color-coded according to the number of isomeric states - here defined as a state above the ground state with a half-life of more than 1 microsecond (detailed description)

Superdeformed band data: $sd.chr
Chart interface for SD band data. Requires SD data (SENSDF) on disk. The chart is color-coded according to the number of known SD bands in each nuclide (detailed description)

Weizäcker's mass formula I, $kranem.chr
The chart is color-coded according to the difference between the calculated and experimental binding energy per nucleon (detailed description)

Weizäcker's mass formula II, $cupsm.chr
The chart is color-coded according to the difference between the calculated and experimental binding energy per nucleon (detailed description)
