This chart can be used as an user interface for nuclear decay data. The chart is color-coded according to the natural abundance of the isotopes. In addition to the natural abundance, there is for each nuclide values for the half-life and percent decay by different modes.
Normally the data are displayed in all nuclide boxes. If a nuclide is selected by clicking on it, a data panel with the data in the box is displayed. If any item in this panel is selected, the full decay scheme is displayed.
If, however, the decay button in the Isotope Explorer tool bar is selected, only the decay chain from any selected nuclide is shown, and only data for the daughters are displayed. Double-clicking on a nuclide box will bring up the full decay scheme.
Notice that if a nuclide has several decay modes, the required mode is selected with the menu item Data, Select Data Set. For some stable nuclides (those without known isomeric states), attempting to display the decay scheme will produce an error message since no decay data set exists .
