3. Utilization of spent reactor graphite.

The goal of this project is to study a new option for the management of radioactive graphite wastes. At present the considerable amount of the irradiated reactor graphite has already been accumulated. Two options are mainly being studied for the management of radioactive graphite wastes: the disposal of treated graphite and incineration and subsequent disposal of the radioactive ash. The project suggests another option: the utilization of this radioactive graphite as a raw material to fabricate host matrixes for the radwastes of spent nuclear fuel reprocessing.

The project is under preparing.
