Configure Your Client To Use The Proxy Server

Faster access to the Web: How to set up your browser to use the proxy server?

There is an Netscape Proxy server ver2.5 running on the proxy.pnpi.spb.ru at the port 81. It can be used by all Web users at PNPI. This proxy server has a cache that is filled as the users follow links and retrieve documents. This means that the "most accessed documents" for users at PNPI will be kept in the cache. The next time a user follows the same link, instead of retrieving the document from a remote site the access will be local at the PNPI cache. The access is faster and we save network traffic.

The use of the proxy server is transparent for the user, you will only notice your browser will be faster retrieving some documents than before. The following protocols will take advantage of using this proxy server:

To use it you have to set up the proxies in your browser. Examples of how to setup your browser:

Notice that only machines in the PNPI site will be able to use this proxy server.
